Clay Bird Bath with Glass

This fun project involved clay and glass. Students researched birdbaths and birds of their choice. After cutting and pasting several examples in their sketchbook to use as reference, students drew a plan of their birdbath in their sketchbooks.

Then students formed their clay bird bath out of clay.

Students placed some broken bits of blue float glass into the bath.Careful to place just enough to cover the bottom of the bath- but not too much in case it overflows. This can be done before the first firing, or after the bisque fire when glaze is applied.

Once fired, students glazed their bird baths and birds.

Once the clay bird baths have been glazed and bits of float glass placed in the bottom they are fired again.
