Glass Islamic Design Tile

Students got a chance to look at various Islamic designs. Looking at the main components found in this style of art, students chose one that they wanted to emulate. Enlarging their design on paper first, students then created their color scheme, and cut out pieces they would need to create their tile out of construction paper. Much like a jigsaw puzzle, students would need to put their glass pieces together to create their tile.

Students achieved better results when the glass pieces fit as close together as possible. Gaps in between causes movement in the glass during the fusing process and may warp the design.

Once all the colored pieces have been cut, a clear piece of art glass is place on top. We placed two copper wire loops in between the two layers of glass so the tiles could be hung for display.
