Printed Flowers in a Vase

This lesson in printmaking and drawing was adapted from one of my favorite art teacher web sites: http://arteascuola.com

Students first painted a background for their flowers with tempera paint. They then carved various flower patterns into foam and cut these out (their own personal stamps). Students created a vase – choosing a vase shape and filling it in with various lines and patterns using a black marker. They then cut out their vase and glued it onto the background. Students then used contrasting ink colors to their background and printed flowers onto several sheets of paper. When these dried, students could then select their best prints for the project.
