Using Caricatures in Printmaking Showing Positive & Negative Space

Students researched caricatures from children’s books and online. Students then created their own original caricature- the idea was to have simple lines and some exaggerated features. Students used tracing paper to trace the caricature from their sketchbook onto both sides of a soft piece of lino. We discussed opposites and positive negative space. One side was carved out to show the body of the caricature and the other to show the background.
